Happy Sunday!
Back at the desk again, with a moment to write. Not sure how long this moment will last. Just write a few words. And then maybe a few more words will come.
Today is a day of my life, a day I get to spend without much to worry about or stress over. It’s a great place to be. And a fleeting place. I know the storm will roll back in eventually, tension will rear its ugly head, and I will be left to navigate the chaos.
But today doesn’t have to be chaotic. I don’t want to take that for granted. These are the days when paying attention is so important. It’s easy to go through the motions while working and surviving. But a day like today is the fruit of that labour.
The chance to relax mentally, existentially, and go wherever you feel like going.
I hope you have a chance to relax, even for a moment, while you read this.
February Highlights:
🧑🌾 I began consulting on a proposed business venture via a very unexpected source. We’ll call this venture “Family Farm.” So far, I’ve been helping to draft a business plan which will soon lead to investment pitches. I think it will be a great opportunity to get a backseat view of how a business comes together.
🎁 We celebrated Sarah’s birthday on a cold, snowy Tuesday this week. We stopped for brunch on our way to pick a birthday cake. The rest of the day was spent eating snacks and watching movies. One benefit of the dreary winter days is their encouragement to rest and relax.
🖊️ I wrote a short piece called No One Is Looking. What would you do if no one was looking?
🦞 Tonight, I will meet Dr. Jordan Peterson. A year ago, my friend, Mr. Daisy, purchased meet-and-greet tickets for Dr. Peterson’s show. After a lengthy delay, the day has arrived. As luck would have it, the same day as Mr. Daisy’s 29th birthday. I expect a memorable evening.

I found this recommended in a Twitter thread asking, “What’s the best thing you own for less than $100?”. For $20, it seemed like an easy experiment. It’s proved to be a very useful tool. There’s something about its’ single-purpose, analog characteristics that make it more effective than the digital timers I’ve used.

This is a fun AI tool that will plan out a trip for you. All you have to do is answer a few questions, and it will give you a personalized trip recommendation with multiple destinations, itineraries, and even hidden gems.

Credit Card Genius (referral link)
I decided it was time to upgrade my credit cards. I have not been optimizing for rewards. I’m still only interested in no-fee cards. This tool was a great aid in figuring out what card offers the best return on my typical spending habits. It also offers cash signup bonuses for some cards if you click through to the application from their site. I was skeptical about this. But I used it to apply for a Tangerine card, and after getting approved, I received the E-transfer CCG promised before the card arrived in the mail.
I only recommend getting a credit card if you are able to make the payments in full every month. It can be a fantastic tool to leverage the money you’re spending anyway. But a 2% return isn’t worth the 20% you’ll spend on interest if that balance doesn’t return to zero often.
