Happy Sunday!
Do you remember where you were on Sunday, February 28, 2010?
I know where I was.
I was sitting on a couch in a crowded common area on the 4th floor of the Rundle residence building at the University of Calgary. The energy was tense. Every eye locked on the TV screen.
Tied 2-2 with time ticking down in overtime. A big save at one end, and the puck goes the other way. It gets chipped into the corner, gobbled up in a give-and-go cycle, and sneaks back into the slot. Sidney Crosby finds it and shoots home his golden goal. Canada wins gold in Vancouver.
Back in Calgary, the 4th floor of Rundle erupts. We’re jumping and yelling and cheering. It’s the most raw, enthusiastic celebration I’ve experienced. Something I’ll never forget.
Canada won gold again in 2014. They won the World Cup in 2016. It wasn’t the same feeling, but at least it was something.
9 years passed before best-on-best hockey happened again.
9 years of wondering how it would feel to see the boys in red together again.
9 years waiting for McDavid, Crosby, and McKinnon to connect on a goal (iykyk).
Luckily, it only took five minutes into the first game of the 4 Nations tournament to finally see it happen. The tournament might’ve only lasted four games, but it was a fun, dramatic ride all the way to the end.
On a Thursday night, 15 years after the golden goal, I was sitting on a couch again, watching Canada and the USA tied 2-2, trading chances in overtime. I held my breath.
When 97 scored, I jumped up and cheered like I was nineteen again. I didn’t expect it, but the synchronized storyline stirred up some faded, familiar feelings. Visceral, enthusiastic excitement.
What a treat. I love hockey.
Still our game, baby!

February in 3 snapshots
☯️ Impression Acupuncture funnel — After months of talking about it, weeks of tinkering with it, and days of doubting it, I finally launched Impression Acupuncture. It’s a basic website for Sarah to build her brand and online patient pool. Not much to it yet, but it opens the door to big possibilities.
🏈 Super Bowl snacks — It’s becoming a yearly tradition to watch my one and only football game of the year in February. The older I get, the more excited I become about activities centered around sitting on the couch and eating snacks. Really, I appreciate finding excuses to mix up the days for any made-up reason.
👨🏻 Family Day weekend with Ted — AppleTV has some great television – Severance, Silo, Shrinking – but one I’d never watched is the OG AppleTV show: Ted Lasso. Last Sunday, it started as an auto-play suggestion. We didn’t hit pause until the end of season 1. It captured our attention and our hearts. Quality, feel-good entertainment.

3 lessons learned in January
I. You can’t escape the weight of heavy emotions. They’re like a storm. And as with any storm, you have two choices: 1) trudge through the wind and rain, or 2) wait it out. The storm will move on, and so will you. Best you can do is bring an umbrella.
II. Patience is a prerequisite for progress. It’s the most essential piece of any process. Anything worth doing takes a frustrating amount of time to figure out. But bit by bit is good enough. Bit by bit will get you there.
III. Your body will tell you what isn’t working. You’ll resist the signs until they arrive at 4am with an uncomfortable poo, one too many times to ignore. Just remember, everything comes with a toll. And enjoy the spice while you can.
