Happy Sunday!

He’s selling,” she said.

Sarah put down her phone and looked up at me with disbelief.

I could feel my stomach sink. The hot real-estate market strikes again.

Two years in a row. What are the odds?

Another year, another round of packing, moving, and hoping.

“I guess it’s time for another adventure,” I said, trying to force a smile.

Sarah did smile, but I could see worry in her eyes. We didn’t want to be starting this process again.

We wanted to skip the packing, the searching, and the uncertainty this year.

But as slouched back into the couch, letting the news wash over us, I couldn’t help but shake my head and chuckle.

“You know what this means, right?” I said with a grin. “We won’t have to share a tiny closet anymore.”

She rolled her eyes and smiled. “Always looking on the bright side, aren’t you?”

“Might as well,” I said, shrugging. “Wherever we end up, we’ll make the best of it. We always do.”

And that’s the thing about change, isn’t it?

It’s never easy or convenient, but it’s always an opportunity to do and be something different.

Don’t get me wrong: it sucks.

But, instead of dwelling on the losses, we’re choosing to find new wins in unexpected places.

We’ll find a new place that feels like home, maybe a new neighbourhood to explore, and new memories made along the way.

Because wherever you are, wherever you go, you make the grass as green as you decide.

So who knows? Maybe the third time’s the charm.

April Notables

🚶🏼‍♂️Weekend in Edmonton at Cliff Lane — Sarah had a work event in Edmonton, so I joined her to stay at an Airbnb near the River Valley. My first time really exploring that part of the city. Just me, the river, and some much-needed chill time. Edmonton is certainly a vibe…

🌆 Easter brunch with a view in the Calgary Tower — Sarah and I met up with her godfather, Francis, for an Easter Sunday treat. The sky was crispy blue, and the restaurant slowly spun us 360 degrees for clear views in every direction. A great day to do something we wouldn’t normally do.

🏒 NHL playoff pool with friends — I joined some friends for an evening of casual gambling, offensive conversations, and good-hearted banter. NHL playoffs are always a nostalgic time of year for me. This was the perfect way to get it started and unplug from everything else for a few hours.

3 lessons learned in April

I. Don’t fear the waves that follow the winds of change.

Change blows in the wind before it brings the waves. When the winds of change blow, it’s easy to board up and brace for the storm. But the waves will wash you away whether you’re prepared for them or not.

They always do.

Just ride the waves.

II. Novelty need not be complicated.

New doesn’t have to mean far away. This month, I discovered new experiences in familiar places. Like in Edmonton, where I decided to consciously explore it for the first time—downtown, the River Valley, Whyte Ave, around the University.

Novelty is just around the corner, literally.

You just have to walk towards it.

III. Every trial turns into triumph in time.

Over a long enough time horizon, the challenges we face become the lessons we live. What once seemed stressful or problematic eventually teaches us something we now take for granted.

We need to pause before judging things as good or bad, allowing time for our perspectives to expand.

Trust that every challenge is a chance to change your life.

I’ll leave you with a quote 🤔

“Incredible things can be done simply if we are committed to making them happen.”

Until next time, remember to live and let go,
