Happy Sunday!
I hope you are enjoying the twilight of fall. The chilly wind and the crunching of leaves underfoot. Did you partake in any Halloween festivities this weekend? I did not. I just worked and took too long writing this newsletter. I’m actually finishing off with the introduction. And at this point, I don’t have much else to add.
So, I’ll just say, Happy Halloween, and thanks for reading!
October Highlights:
💪 I began seeing a therapist. It had been on my mind and my to-do list for quite some time. With the help of Sarah, I was able to get over the hump and book a consult. The consult call was fruitful. I went to my first appointment earlier this week. I left it feeling encouraged by the conversation. I’m content with my life, but I’m not satisfied with my efforts in a few key aspects. I want to continue to grow and expand, and I think this will help greatly in that process. Sharing it here seems like a good way to cement my commitment to it.
🎈 Happy belated birthday to my dad! He turned 60 on Monday. When I asked him what it felt like to be turning 60, he said it was no different from any recent birthday. Though, he did say that it was nice to be back on the younger side of a decade again.
🚙 My vehicle search continues on. I wish I could say that I was giving it my all. But, rather, I’ve been avoiding the process for the most part. I did pursue one prospect. I found a 2006 Nissan X-Trail. I went to see the vehicle. It looked well-maintained. Everything seemed to be in order. The seller agreed to have it inspected by my mechanic. After seeing the vehicle, my mechanic told me not to buy it. He proceeded to list off a lengthy set of problems. The seller was gracious throughout the process and did offer me a lower price. I declined. I was hoping this one would work out to save me from having to begin the process anew. But alas, that’s not the way it worked out. After taking some time off, I have begun searching for prospects once again.
🍂 We enjoyed a spectacular autumn in Calgary. The weather was unseasonably warm. The leaves had a chance to change colours gracefully. The wind didn’t even whip too hard. It seems I talk about the weather a lot in these newsletters. Maybe it’s an easy thing to talk about, or maybe I’m just paying more attention this year.
🍶 A fun aspect of my job at Lonely Mouth Bar is the plethora of Japanese influences. A big one is sake. Lonely Mouth has the largest and most diverse sake list in Calgary. Before Lonely Mouth, I knew nothing about sake. But over the past four months, I’ve come to appreciate sake much more than I expected. It is such a simple, yet complex, drink. It has only four ingredients. Each of them plays a significant role in the quality and richness of the sake. This month, I took part in an official sake training course, presented by a sake sommelier. Getting to try a handful of different sakes while learning about the intricacies of the brewing process really took my appreciation and knowledge to a new level.

- “Whatever age you are today, your future self would love to be it. Most people do not consider 65 to be a young age, but when you’re 75 you’d love to rewind to 65 and regain those years. Few people would describe 35 as your youth, but in your mid-50s your mid-30s will seem like the “young you.” — James Clear

If you enjoyed the newsletter, do me a favour and share it with one person.
I haven’t figured out how to do one of those auto-share buttons, so you’ll need to copy and paste, like we used to before phones got so smart.
I hope you have a novel November!
