Hello there!
Welcome to another newsletter! It’s not quite the end of April, but the final Sunday is here. I hope the last week of April brings spring-like cheer and sunshine.
🖋️ Earlier this week, I posted a blog titled “Timbits & Failing”. I watched a bunch of 5-year-olds take part in their first hockey practice and their tenacity made me consider my own approach to persistence.
📖 I also posted my book notes on Beyond Order by Jordan Peterson. The follow up to his wildly popular 12 Rules For Life. I found this book engaging and pertinent to some of the struggles I’m facing. I appreciate Peterson’s perspective and continue to derive value from his work.
I. Video that made me feel something
My Grandfather’s Memory Book
A fantastic story of a grandson connecting with his recently-passed grandfather through the detailed journals and sketchbooks his grandfather left behind. It’s told in a simple and engaging cartoon style that recreates entries from the sketchbooks. It left me wanting to write and capture more of my day-to-day life and memories that I already do.
II. Poem that made me smile
If I Had My Life To Live Over Again by Nadine Stair.
A beautiful short poem that reminded me to pay attention and smell the roses.
“If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot
earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall.”
III. Blog I’ve been thinking about
10-Point Scale & Wikipedia by Nick Yoder
The article is loosely a strategy to counteract the crippling nature of perfectionism. Basically, he has derived a method where he posts articles before they are ready and attributes them a score based on this 10-point scale. The higher the number, the closer it is to being truly complete. As someone that struggles with perfectionism and deciding when something is ready to post, I am intrigued by this idea.
Quote To Consider
“This is the real secret of life: to be completely engaged with what you are doing in the here and now, and instead of calling it work, realize it’s play.”
— Alan Watts
