Happy Sunday!
As the days get shorter, and the wind blows colder, I’m considering the curious constraint the weather places on us. We live our lives in direct relation to the temperature of the air outside. Obviously, not all of us have the luxury of choice in this regard, but for those of us that do, we tend to avoid the extremes. Can’t be too hot or too cold. Temperate it is.
I’ve been asking myself:
As winter approaches, and you find yourself spending more time inside after the sun has gone down, what will you do to appreciate that time the same way you would a warm, sun-filled evening in June?
September Highlights
🤔 A month removed from the chaos of August, I am content with my lot in life. I feel comfortable in my new home. I’m finding growth and satisfaction in my employment. And I’m creating the space to explore beyond the demands of my day to day life. When I made the change this summer, my hope was to end up with a different set of problems to solve. I have achieved that aim. Life is not easy or free from stress, but it is rife with new people and new situations. I appreciate each and every one for what it has to offer.
🎂 I ventured out just past the Saskatchewan border to celebrate my nephew’s first birthday. We were surprised with a new puppy in the family, baby kittens and babier kittens, and a relaxed weekend on the farm. I made a pair of highlight reels to commemorate it. (Part 1 / Part 2)
🚙 I’m approaching my unofficial deadline to sort out a different vehicle. I’ve been riding Wade on borrowed time for most of this year. Once the freeze comes, it will be even dicier every time I fire up that sensitive engine.
🙆♂️ I was lucky enough to have a few days off to start this week. I used that time to get back into editing videos. It’s been too long since I spent quality time partaking in the creative process. I hope that these few days spark some motivation in me to keep going with it. I have lots of banked footage to weave stories around and share.
Three value-packed things to share 🌎
I. 🖊️ARTICLE spelling the end of ineffective trigger warnings

Trigger Warning: Reality Hurts by Mark Manson (5min read)
- “The human mind is antifragile—that is, it gains from discomfort and strain. That means to grow stronger, the human mind needs to regularly be confronted with difficult and upsetting experiences to develop stability and serenity for itself. ” — Mark Manson
II. 📹 VIDEO on the fleetingness of time and connections

No Vacation From The Camera by Van Neistat (YouTube)
- “Maybe the story is the thing that is helpful. But we’ve got to shoot the conflicts. Can’t just shoot the pretty scenery and call it a story. And when we put it all together with the typewriter and the editing software, we, the storyteller, often, if we’ve done it right, we, get a new piece of wisdom. Maybe that’s what we, the storytellers, are after.” — Van Neistat
III. 🖊️ NEWSLETTER/ARTICLE about seizing opportunities today

3-2-1: Lucky opportunities, aging, and productivity by James Clear (2min read)
- “Whatever age you are today, your future self would love to be it. Most people do not consider 65 to be a young age, but when you’re 75 you’d love to rewind to 65 and regain those years. Few people would describe 35 as your youth, but in your mid-50s your mid-30s will seem like the “young you.” — James Clear

I’ll leave you with a quote 🤔
“There will come a time when you believe everything is finished. That will be the beginning.”
— Louis L’Amour
If you enjoyed the newsletter, do me a favour and share it with one person.
I haven’t figured out how to do one of those auto-share buttons, so you’ll need to copy and paste, like we used to before phones got so smart.
I hope you have an opulent October!

P.S. Better penguin party
